Huldufólk — literally 'hidden folk' — are supernatural beings in Icelandic mythology. Not demons or ghosts, but human-like creatures who live in lava rocks, grassy hills and geological formations invisible to ordinary eyes.
Hafnarfjörður: The Elf City
This town near Reykjavík is considered the heartland of Icelandic elfology. Surveys show about 54% of Icelanders don't rule out the existence of Huldufólk. The municipality has even published an official map of elf sites.
How to Visit
Hafnarfjörður offers guided tours of elf locations. The most famous guide is Sibba, who has led visitors for decades.
